How to Maintain and Replace Your Diode Laser Handpiece
The handpiece is the most critical and most frequently handled component of your diode laser machine. Proper maintenance extends its life and ensures consistent treatment results. Here is a complete guide.
Daily Maintenance
- Clean the sapphire crystal with alcohol wipes after each patient
- Inspect the crystal for scratches, chips, or clouding
- Check the handpiece cable for kinks or damage
- Verify cooling temperature is reaching target range
Weekly Maintenance
- Deep clean the handpiece housing (avoid liquid ingress)
- Check all connector pins for corrosion or looseness
- Run a calibration check with the built-in test mode
When to Replace
- Sapphire crystal is visibly damaged
- Output energy has dropped by more than 15%
- Cooling is no longer effective (stays above 10C at max setting)
- Handpiece has exceeded 10 million shots (preventative replacement)
Replacement Guide
Most handpieces are user-replaceable. Order a compatible replacement, disconnect the old handpiece, connect the new one, and run a calibration cycle. Keep a spare handpiece on hand to avoid downtime.
